Project Guidelines

You will need four separate pages for your proposal of the competition to the director.  Make sure that you include all the things that she will need to plan this episode.  Below are your requirements:

Map of City

  • Use the pages program to paste in your map from the Cities tab.

  • Write a title at the top of the page.

  • Label the starting point, competition location, and ending point.

  • Write down the latitude and longitude of the starting and ending points.  You can do this on Google Maps by clicking that exact location.  (-80 means 80 degrees West.)

  • Write down the distances between the starting point and competition point AND the competition point and the ending point.

  • This map should be the first page of your document.

Challenge Day

  • Before you pick your location, you must do some research.  Look at the different things that make this city unique.  Look at landforms, different businesses, historical events that have taken place here, or anything else that makes this place interesting.  Write about your research first.

  • Create a competition that relates to the town.

  • Make sure that this location is the same as the map on the page before.

  • Contestants may not arrive at this location at the same time.  You may plan for two-person team challenges or a one-person challenge.

  • Where will they go after they have completed the challenge?

Transportation

  • Work the with person that is one leg of the race before you so you know how they plan to get to your city.

  • See how many miles it will be from their end point to your beginning point.

  • Show the forms of transportation that your teams will use to get from one leg of the competition to the next.

  • Restate the miles that you placed on your map.

What to Pack

  • Look up the average temperature in your location for that particular day.  To do this, google "Average temperature in _____________" and click on the top option that is from weather.com.  On the drop down menu, change the option from monthly averages to daily averages.

  • What is the season and climate of your area on the date of your challenge?

  • Write about the types of clothing they should be wearing for the activity that they are about to do.

  • Will they need anything extra to complete this leg of the race?

  • What will they eat today?  There will not be much time to stop and eat.
